Fellow Apexians,

The 1970 year of Apex has come to an end and we are still going strong. Our membership has had a nett increase of three, from the beginning of the year. Reference to the financial statements shows that

we have raised and distributed a record amount of charitable funds. Service hours of the club are also in the same category.

My personal observations of our club are:-

(a) That we have become big minded as regards to service and fund raising activities.

(b) That we have 28 members prepared to offer advice, criticisms and suggestions on all matters concerning our club without fear of contradiction or criticism.

(c) That we are without ‘clicks’ and so enjoy great social activity.

(d) That we are all no doubt proud to be a member of club 401.

(e) That 1971 will be bigger and better than ever.

Reflecting back over the past twelve months, the following highlights come readily to mind:-

(a) Life membership to Kevin Trudgen.

(b) Special general meeting re. Insurance of hot rod meeting with its subsequent portion of recommittal.

© The great attendance at the first hot rod meeting.

(d) Excellent attendance at Zone Convention run by Shepparton – Sherbourne.

(e) Once again, the sending of 20 children and 2 leaders to the Portsea Camp.

(f) The ‘Miss-A-Meal’, where we enjoyed a better dinner meeting meal than usual, (in some cases, anyway.)

(g) Our participation in the Walk Around Australia for Autism.

(h)The many interesting guest speakers.

(i) Our contact with Kin Club, Bently.

(j) Ted Davis being sent over to New Zealand for a tour of Round

Table Now Zealand.

(k) Attendance at our Dinner of now Association President, Brian Horgen.

(l) The continued high standard of Dinner notices.

(m) That Frank Kool’s second name starts with ‘L’.

(n) Good dinner attendances despite several members being on leave of absence.

(o) The commitment of our club to raise $20,000 for the Senior Citizen’s building fund appeal.

(p) Andrew Vaivars as 1971 President.

(q) Excellent work done by most committees.

(r) Our quick exit, (to be polite), from the hot rod meetings. I think we got in the boom, made our profit and were out just before the market collapsed.

(s) Tony London’s participation in the District Public Speaking final.

(t) The mighty fishing trip organised by Denis.

I would like to thank each of you for your ready assistance over the year. Living at Kyabram for the greater part of the year, resulted in my getting members to attend various meetings, etc., that I could not attend. Your assistance in this regard is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to the board for their efforts in the various port-folios. Such efforts rewarded by the advancement in our club’s activities and achievements. I only wish that board attendances had been better. Frank Kool has done a remarkable job with the club’s finance in a most hectic year of money handling. My secretary Phil has, as always, been his efficient and enthusiastic Apex self and for his great assistance, I am most grateful.

To Andrew, I hope you will find 1971 a most rewarding Apex year. Congratulations on your election to President.

Thank you all for allowing me the privilege of being 1970 President of the Apex club of Mooroopna.
