My year as President of your Club is over. What was your year like?
Did you enjoy it? Did you achieve what you set out to do? Are you
glad it is all over? These are a few of the questions I get asked
lately, and I honestly do not know how to answer them.
First of all it is a great honour to elected President to a club
like ours especially for me, a fellow who never spoke in Public other than "thank you for coming to my Wedding" So I’m certainly
proud to be able to say I’m a past President, whether my reign of office has benefitted our Club, I let the members decide that one for themselves.
I can honestly say that our Club had a happy year with an influx of valuable new members. I had no great achievements in mind when
I took office, other than to maintain the good work done by past Presidents and members and I humbly feel we did not fail there.
Finance and Fund raising wise we saw some good efforts by our Club and individuals. All though I feel apprehensive about the fact that
I must be the first President to this Club who will hand over to an
incoming President with an overdrawn No2 Account. Sorry Lou.
I am and I am not glad it is all over, I will miss the respect and support I had from all members as president. But I will not miss
the frustration of Chairmanship, the frustration of not being able to express an opinion or influence a decision made at Board or Floor meeting through means of debate.
Highlights? The visit of Round tabler Barry Dyer with the
fellowship of the rifle shoot, Bar-B-Q and Progressive dinner stand out in my mind. When Andris pulled the chair out from under me in front of 80 people representing some 12 countries, yes that was indeed a highlight.
Highlights? The high intake of new members, the good attendance figures with so few AWOL these are facts that showed our
meetings were interesting and cur Club is functioning well in that
respect. The "fun" job which proved so successful even though
some members including myself were doubtful well done Leon and
Frank. These are a few highlights that come to my mind when I
think back over the last 12 months and of course that memorable trip up to the Murray with autumn brown Bob still brings fond memories of Rufus.
Disappointments? The fact that we did not toast our Queen ie.. Our
Country, that was a disappointment but anarchists- ruled the roost that memorable first meeting.
So then it is my sincere pleasure to thank all of you fellows for the support given during my year as your President and a special thank you to my right hand, Secretary Andris he made ray job a breeze.
Last but certainly not least I thank my wife Elizabeth and all the other Ladies who quietly helped us through the year and made their homes available for Social functions and board meetings thank you ladies.
And to President Louis I wish and trust that ‘you’ll be given the same support and fellowship I received, all the best Louis.
Yours in Apex Frank
