As the year closes our membership stands at a record thirty eight. I feel this augers well for the future of our Club as numbers
give power, expertise and variety. Of course, it also poses problems,
but these can be easily overcome if every member involves himself in Club
activities whenever possible. As I have said before, the more one is
involved the more benefit one gains out of belonging to an Association such as ours.
The loss of Max Connors and Jim Douglass is a very sad thing
and the gaps they leave will be hard to fill. The life memberships
granted to both these fine Apexians is fitting tribute to their contribution to Apex and our community over the years.
One test of whether you are enjoying yourself is if time passes quickly. For me this year has passed very quickly indeed. On looking
back there are many more things we could have done but time is too short. Whether it has been a fruitful year or not I leave to you and your
interpretation of the Director’s Reports. I thank all Directors for
their untiring work for the Club.
Never-the-less I don’t think years in Apex should be looked
at in isolation. We should always be trying to do what is in the best
interests of the Club so that we continue to progress. Certainly some
relatively uneconomic projects have been discontinued such as the Golf Day but by the same token other projects like the Yabby Day and proposed Garden Day have been initiated. We must continue to adapt and change
with the times.
I would particularly like to thank secretary Peter for his efficiency and his devotion to the task.
I thank also my wife for her support and encouragement.
To President-elect Ken go my best wishes and I know that his dedication and sincerity will ensure him a great year.
Finally to all members I extend my appreciation for your support and the opportunity to serve as your President. It has been a great
experience.
