Fellow Apexians –
So climaxes a most successful year in the history of the Apex club of Mooroopna.
To each Apexian, I wish to say thank you one and all for a job well done. To each Apexian, a particular thank you for being tolerant and understanding.
During the year, members have created these records
1. Staging Zone Convention
2. Service Hours
3. Money raised from waste paper
4. Inter-club visiting
5. District Convention attendance gavel award
6. Fines received
7. Tremendous participation by Apexiannes at their meetings
8. Visits by Association Presidents, G. Sprague and P. Mayo
9. Number of photos in Shepparton News
10. Fishing trip – 15 men for 3 days
It has been a most demanding year and one in which much was achieved. Never has this club pulled together so well under the challenge of the mammoth task of wholly conducting Zone 7 Convention last October. This alone built our club in fellowship and the old digger attitude of getting the job done. It was gratifying to hear praise bestowed upon the club, giving a feeling of it being an honour to be among such a group as this.
I must record my thanks to Zone Convention Secretary Phil Banfield and pay tribute to the way in which he tackled the Convention Secretariat and to his devotion to Apex.
The board must be congratulated on its enthusiasm and drive in guiding the club through the year. Attendances were extremely high and participation was at its zenith. Forward planning for future activities has evolved a long term project for the establishment of a library in our fair city. With our rapidly increasing population and the unsatisfiable need for education in the world today, this is a great step in the right direction.
To Secretary Max Connors, a tremendous job so capably handled, did assist greatly in the efficiency of the administration of this club. A good Secretary simplifies the Chairman’s job.
Service Director Frank Kool engendered a service record for the club, almost double in service hours to our previous best. Frank’s ability in planning, organising and co-ordinating our clubs’ service activities indicated in no small way his personal zest for efficiency. His portfolio was executed in a most capable and co-operative manner. His records of achievements are indicative of an excellent Apexian doing his best.
Our best fund raising scheme during the year was waste paper collection. Leon Williams must be congratulated on his approach to this task with an end result of a record in the amount of monies raised. He completed our storage shed and has almost seen the finality of concreting the floor. Frank and Leon’s impetus created personal records in service hours, beyond that which is ever expected of an Apexian.
We must give our thanks to Mooroopna Urban Fire Brigade for assisting this club in our hour of greatest need, in collecting our waste paper on the Zone Convention weekend, last October.
The club has done well throughout the whole year in its cooperation with directors of portfolios. Under Les Mason’s guidance, this club has created a record in inter-club visits and holds the highest attendance for the district and possibly Zone. This was also borne out in our winning of the "Attendance Gavel" at the District Convention, (and also the dinner and bar-b-que afterwards.)
A record in Public Relations was achieved in there being at least 12 photos and numerous articles and notes published in the Shepparton News. During this year, we have had visits from Association V.P., P. Mayo at Zone Convention and Association President George Sprague and Peter Mayo in our club’s domain.
An excellent fishing trip for 15 Apexians for the long weekend was the result of Social Director Lloyd Tremellen’s careful planning.
Our most successful Social year assisted in generating drive for such a busy year in all activities. To Lloyd and Glenice, I say thank you.
Glenice, wife of Social Director Lloyd Tremellen, must be congratulated for the most capable manner in which she has so successfully directed the activities of the Apexiannes during the year. I am deeply honoured to Glenice for accepting this task and my greatful thanks go to her for this tremendous achievement.
Without taking the risk of filling this whole report, I apologise for not naming each board member. To each board member and each Apexian, you have done well; you have built an excellent club and you have made my job easy. I am proud to be one of you, thank you.
The climax of our Golf day was that of Mark Bullen winning the putting competition and collecting for a trophy, a putter.
Dental Health Week and National Community Survey Study were part of the year and our thoughts on their effectiveness must be kept in mind, when discussing agenda items for District and Zone Conventions. It is at this point every member has a say in what happens in the Association of Apex clubs.
Apex is a Service club in which we get from it, all that we put into it. We get satisfaction in many ways, but in particular through Service, Fellowship and Citizenship.
Apex has been in existence for 39 years and has expanded from 1 club to over 580 clubs with 15,000 Apexians. During this time) Apex has not found it necessary to use monies from its charity account.
This club has always had strong feelings in the principle of not using this charity account monies to cover administration costs within Apex. We must at all times defend this principle and preserve Apex’s ideals.
In conclusion, we must thank Mr. & Mrs. N. Coe and staff for their courteous manner, assistance and co-operation in the conduct of our meetings.
I wish to thank you for allowing me the honour of being your President for 1968/69. It has been a tremendous experience.
I congratulate incoming President Rob Galagher and may he enjoy Apex with the wonderful group of fellows and Apexiannes.
YIA
Jim Douglass
