Presidents Report – John Stevens 1979-1980

Posted By: Kevin · July 31st, 2010 · Comments

Well my twelve months as President have come and gone very quickly. Our club membership is on the way up with twenty six members and two new members to be inducted early in the new Apex year.

Our major project for the year has been the construction (with the building assistance of the Shepparton Technical College) of a caretaker’s house at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve. This will be a great asset to the Reserve when completed in the new Apex year and handed over to the trustees of the Reserve.

Once Again our major fund raising effort has come from waste paper collection around our town. Some other fund raising efforts have been: a charity film premiere, sale of Mac’s Shortbread, our Annual Ball which was a great financial success, also the cooking and sale of Apex Roasted Peanuts. The money from most of these projects and others were placed into our house account.

Our last Foundation Member Andris Vaivars retires at this handover. It will be a sad thing for our club as Andris has contributed eighteen years to our club and the community.

I would like to thank all members who have helped me in my year as President; to all the members who were on committees and did such a fine job; to the board members who I feel did an excellent job throughout the year; to Jeff Boyle who was my secretary and right hand man. I thank you all.

I have learned a lot about Apex since I have been President and have enjoyed my year in office. I’ve gained a lot of confidence in speaking to a meeting, and learned a lot about meeting procedure and Apex in general.

Apex is a part of my life and will always be. Once again I thank you all for giving me the chance to serve as your president and I wish Ray Watt and the new board all the best in the coming year.
