Presidents Report – Luigi D’Amore 1972-1973

We now come to the conclusion of yet another Apex Year. It is a

privilege to present my report as your President for our eleventh year of the Apex Club of Mooroopna.

Our Club, like any other, has had its "ups and downs". This is

of course, what has made it very interesting.

The highlights for me have been -

a) The excellent Programmes throughout the year, and thanks for this must go to our Programme Director Jeff.

b) The interclub visit as a whole- club to Yarrawonga-Mulwala Apex Club – and consuming chicken and champagne on the centre of the road, one mile east of Katamatite. Thanks to Director Frank Turton.

c) The very enjoyable mixed bus trip to Healesville and the excellent fellowship with Rushworth-Colbinabbin during and after our cricket match. Thanks to Director Ian.

d) .Representing Mooroopna Apex Club at the Opening of the Recreation Reserve and speaking to Premier Dick Hamer.

e) Invitations to the Annual District Dinner of the Rifle Shooters Association and the recent change-over dinner of the Rotary Club of Mooroopna.

f) The efforts put into the collection of waste-paper by the Club and the money received for our Charity Account is pleasing.

g) Thanks must-go to Sergeant-at-Arms Brendan Ryan for his entertaining Fines Sessions.

h) The high service hours recorded by our Club members (if hours mean anything) and the good work done by Service Director Ted.

i) The most outstanding Citizenship work this year must be the

sending of thirty-two children to Portsea. Thanks to Chairman
Ray Booth and his Committee.

j) Also the wood drive for the elderly people of Mooroopna, and the painting of the house ‘in Harding Street.

Now I come to the downs. The controversial Racing Greyhound for

instance. We will never know whether or not this venture would have been

a success, but one thing is certain – it did stimulate a lot of club discussion for many meetings.

Next – the fowl manure. An excellent idea and fund raising scheme

by a newer member, Apexian Peter. Unfortunately, due to the lack of support

because of seasonal work, it was not the success it should have been.

The lack of support given to Dinner-Notice Director Frank Kool for items for the Midlander was disappointing.

I was disappointed when we were put out of the debating competition, despite the excellent effort of our team.

The unhappiest event, for me, will come at the handover Dinner when I present Anthony (Tony) Bullen with his pewter mug on the retirement age. Tony – we’ll miss you and Barbara.

There isn’t space to mention all Directors and Committees, but if you are not mentioned, please don’t think that your co-operation hasn’t been appreciated. Thank you all.

I would like to thank my Secretary Bill (my right hand man, so to speak) for his help and co-operation throughout the year.

Also to my wife Elizabeth Ann and the ladies for their help on the Golf Day and at any other functions they were asked to help with. It
certainly makes our jobs easier.

Once again, to every member of the Club, both board and Floor, thanks for your help and guidance throughout the year. I know that many of you

have contributed a lot that most do not know about.

To President Ian, I wish you all the best for the year. I know

that you’ll get the support that I did and trust that you have a year as memorable as mine has been.

Finally, to every member of the Club, may I extend my own personal appreciation for the wonderful opportunity to serve as your President. It
has indeed been an honour and a great experience.
