Presidents Report – Phil Banfield 1963-1964

Fellow Apexians,

It is with much pleasure and humbleness that I present this report as your President for the past twelve months.

When our club was formed two years ago we were told that from experience of other clubs that the second year as an Apex Club would be the hardest both in interest for the members and the maintaining of Numbers.

I feel that we have more than held our own as can be seen in the annual reports of the directors.

Highlights of the year were the completion of the landscaping of the Swimming Pool, another successful Carry-On, our overwhelming success in the District Debating Competition, in our Aid to Youth, Golf Days, Firm Grounding in International Relations and our successful application for next year’s District Convention.

Our overall dinner attendance percentage is high and the members participation in interclub visiting extremely so.

A very keen interest was shown in the elections for next year’s board with all three top positions being contested and nearly the whole club standing for the other nine positions.

Our least success was in our kindling wood drives and I feel that next year’s board will have to give serious thought to completing this scheme. I think that it is evident that at this stage quickly completed service schemes are the most successful for our club.

Although membership over all stands at the same as last year we will find it easier to find new members as the Club becomes more firmly established in the community. I truly feel that the sooner we can get our membership up to the 28-30 mark the more impact we shall have.

Citizenship plays a very big part in our Club. Members are taking an active part in Youth, Sporting and Church Groups, Goulburn Valley Centre for Intellectually Handicapped Children, save the Children Fund Committee and the Goulburn Valley Fun and Food Fiesta Committee.

To Secretary Andy my sincere thanks for the way in which he has helped me throughout the year. And my board members for the way in which they all made my year so easy, a big thank you.

It was indeed a great honour and privilege to have been your President in this our second year of Apex and to all Club Members I also say thank you for your support and co-operation.

To our new President Tony my congratulations and knowledge that the club will give to him their fullest support in the year ahead as they gave to me in the past twelve months.

Yours in Apex

Phil Banfield
