As I write this report, my last as an Apexian, I have only one "regret” that I did not join Apex at a younger age as Apex has been very good to me giving me the chance to meet and make many friends and giving a chance to gain experience in meeting people, chairing meetings and speaking in public. I would have liked to have had time to pass on some of my experience to younger Apexians. During my nine years and several months in the club I have been very busy holding
seven portfolios and going on two Apex sponsored trips, to New Zealand and this year to the Philippines.
This last year in Apex has been the most rewarding as it is a great honour to be the President. When the year began I knew that with five members retiring at the end of the year and other Apexians leaving because of shifts in employment, that membership would be one of the biggest problems to overcome. : although we did not get as many new members as we lost I think the calibre of the new member speaks for itself as three of them are on the new board next year. The club had a low spot during the year but to my mind- in the last four months there has been a resurgence of interest with many of the younger members bringing forward good ideas and also getting them adopted and carried out.
During the year there was many highlights as you will see
by reading the reports of the directors. I will only name three which I think were unique in club history, they are:
1. The Medieval Dinner
2. The Christmas Dinner at which Apexian. Phil Banfield was given his life membership.
3. The sowing of the lawn tennis courts.
I must thank all board members for their support, they all did a great job and must take the credit for a successful year. Special thanks to Secretary Gary Golding who in his first year as a board member took on the secretary portfolio and with efficiency and dedication did a first class job.
Thanks go to the floor members Louis D’Amore (Portsea Chairman) Angelo Russo (Ball Committee Chairman) and Adrian Bakker (Cancel Cancer Chairman) for their dedication to getting the job done successfully by the various committees.
My final thanks go to all members of the Mooroopna Apex Club for the opportunity to be your President and to spend nine never to be forgotten years in Apex.
